An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge or corner of the nail grows into the surrounding skin. This can cause redness, swelling, tenderness, and sometimes infection as the nail begins to press into and irritate the skin.
Ingrown toenails may develop due to several factors, including foot trauma, wearing tight or ill-fitting footwear, excessive flattening of the foot that causes the toe to rotate, improper self-treatment such as cutting the nail too deeply, or natural conditions where the skin around the nail is fuller.
During your treatment, our therapist will carefully trim and remove the section of nail that is growing into the skin and causing pain or infection. Once the problematic portion has been treated, the area will be cleansed and protected with antiseptic and a sterile dressing to support proper healing and reduce discomfort.
